So, it's Thanksgiving eve and most young, cool people are either out drinking or are the ones actually serving the drinks...OR are going on an awesome freakin' vacation somewhere warm and amazing...And I'm here in my living room watching my man Harry Potter sipping on a drink of my own writing about my life and spaghetti squash...damn straight! No Place I'd rather be...(except maybe on one of those awesome vacations to someplace warm)...but that's besides the point...
The precious information I'm about to disclose will DRAMATICALLY change your eating experience for the better...I promise...
The beautiful thing about spaghetti squash is that when cooked, the flesh of the squash is reminiscent of spaghetti, hence the name.
AWESOME..So, if you're on a no-grain, low-carb, gluten free or clean eating diet but still love the idea of having spaghetti, this scrumptious gourd is a great substitute for the real thing.
BUT most people are doing it wrong!!
Wait...This is NOT the ideal way...small child-style cut spaghetti (above)
Let's stop the madness people!! I'm constantly seeing posts about delicious spaghetti squash recipes but the damn squash is cut in half length-wise and then roasted, then "forked" so the spaghetti-like flesh breaks apart...But don't you ever get pissed off at the fact that this method doesn't give you long strings that you can twirl on a fork like real pasta? The strings come out just too damn short! I used to refuse to eat this kind of squash because I felt like I was eating child-cut pasta instead of REAL twirl-able spaghetti!
Well, I'm going to teach you how to avoid the short-cut child-sized spaghetti squash strings and get long lifelike strings that make you feel like you're ACTUALLY eating REAL spaghetti...this is going change your world forever.
Thanks to my mother-in-law who's in town visiting I was able to sit down at a REAL table without a pile of clothes waiting to be folded on it and actually enjoy this tasty bowl of "yum"... And it wouldn't be complete without "King Kong" joining me over in the corner...Whoop whoop!! (now to put that laundry away...)
OK! Lets do it to it humans!
You will need:
Now, let's do the damn thing:
6. Put in the oven for 20-30 minutes (i like to flip them half way through but this is not necessary)
7. After tender, remove from oven, let cool and then fork the spaghetti-like flesh into the middle of the "ring"
8. Top with your favorite sauce or whatever you'd like and enjoy!
You can also make a bunch ahead of time and keep it in a container in the fridge which is what I like to do at least!
I know it's late but I hope this got to some of you before you started cooking for the big feast tomorrow!
Have a wonderful, happy and safe Thanksgiving...We all have something, if not MANY things to be thankful for so let us remember that!!
Be kind, thanks for reading and ENJOY!!! xoxo
